No longer do we stack CDs, visit libraries, rent movies, buy map books, post letters, send our kids’ out’ to play, or even cruise bars for dates—it’s all online. It’s all driven by code. In code, we are trusting.
This blog covers our inexorable march into the dematerialized world. It intends to explain the context, demystify the geek-speak, highlight the investment opportunities, and make you a wealthier and more interesting person.
The most pressing of all technologies is at the top of this list—Blockchain—a technology so important I’ve just written a book about it.
“In Code We Trust,” it is unsurprisingly titled— “Bitcoin, Cryptocurrencies, Blockchain. A Revolution Governed by Rules, not by Rulers.”
This blog will loosely follow the book’s structure, explaining what Blockchain is, how it’s implemented, and why it matters. Of course, it will also explore the latest news and context for daily life.
What’s the most prevalent view of this sector?
The media hypes up this staggering new technology’s profit and loss aspects. This leads to the natural conclusion that it’s some kind of casino. A get-rich-quick Ponzi scheme of people speculating on “nothing.”
I’m here to tell you that ‘nothings’ don’t grow exponentially in value, crash, and re=grow… ever stronger each time—over and over, until 3-Trillion dollars have flowed into the sector over 12-years. There’s something in all this—something worth exploring.
So—though we’ll get to the vast topics and technologies that will remake our near future—Artificial Intelligence, Quantum Computing, Automation, Energy Management, Genetic Manipulation—our point of departure is Blockchain.
Why do we start with Blockchain?
Because Blockchain builds the most secure and incorruptible databases ever conceived—and databases matter, every detail of our modern lives relies on accurate information held within countless databases. From money to governance—none of us appreciate how well these databases work until they don’t.
Consider the nightmare your life becomes if your details in any of the following databases are compromised, stolen, defrauded, or negatively altered:
Your identity, credit score, bank balances, educational attainments, tax status, asset ownership, licenses, passport, subscriptions, leases, and even your vote.
So it is this mysterious new way of organizing data that is about to upend the world as we know it—for the better.
Of course, the folks and organizations with the monopoly to run and manipulate these databases on incompatible old-fashioned rails aren’t too thrilled. They don’t like disruption that might paint them out of the game. They also own or strongly influence the media, so that all you’ve probably heard about what Blockchain, Crypto Currencies, and Bitcoin are is that they’re dangerous and sinister newcomers.
They’re not. They’re business as you’ve never seen it before.
